Designing in Cambodia

I wrote a post a few weeks ago about a blog by a group of Dutch Industrial Design students documenting their work on a portable, solar powered lamp for use in rural Cambodia. As a design student and a former PEPY volunteer, a got a lot of pleasure from looking back at their notes. Besides working in partnership with a Khmer solar energy company, the students were able to conduct user research directly… Continue

Interested in pursuing sustainable energy projects in Cambodia?

I just came across this blog from a group of Industrial Design students at Delft University in the Netherlands. The blog is about their thesis project called Lumens, "an affordable, quality lighting solution for the rural Cambodian population." They are working in partnership with a young Cambodian solar energy company called Kamworks.… Continue

FYI: The PEPY People Network is now public

Hello PEPY people!

We are so excited that there has been a lot of activity on the PEPY People Network and we have decided to try making this an open forum where everyone can see the community we have created. Those who wish to post on the network will still have to become members, but anyone who views the PEPY site will be able to see the content. That being said, there are ways to make photos, videos, groups, etc private, as we have already made most of the specific tour groups private (conten… Continue

There is Snow on the Ground in Cambodia...

...and by Cambodia I mean South Philadelphia. A quick stroll around my new neighborhood proved there is more to South Philly than cheesesteaks. I guess learning the local language will come in handy after you return home.

Hey, thanks heaps! I'll let you know if I have a problem, but I'm working distance so I think I'd likely end up plowing through it before anyone has the chance to get back to me. I'll be on a 12 hour time difference! Blargh!

yes! I was the last person to post on your wall and am now not only that but the second-to-last person too. Wooohoo.

Hm, so I'm actually hanging out in Cambodia for a few weeks more, then hoping/planning to travel a bit more in the greater Southeast Asian area (maybe a splurge on a visit to New Zealand too? dunno yet.). I have NO idea when I'll be back in the US, though November seems like a definite yes.

what are you up to now?

Dude, that picture's even funnier than that gnome picture you sent us. I think I'm going to put it on the fridge. If only it was signed... Maybe I'll forge your chickenscratch. :)

I couldn't convince Mandy or Tech to shave their heads when they sit across from me so I'm making do with your gnome picture as my desktop...
