An official and comprehensive list of objects and living beings that can be carried by moto* in Cambodia

*Motos are small motorbikes; a ubiquitous mode of transport in Cambodia

1. individual motorcyclists

2. individual motorcyclists with a passenger

3. a family of six plus dog

4. 20 recently slaughtered chickens and ducks on a rack

5. around ten 25 foot lengths of bamboo; carried by hand.

6. a block of ice no less than 1 foot wide 1 foot deep and 6 feet long; the proportions of the ice will alter rapidly as the sun takes its toll.

7. 3 live pigs strapped into a wicker basket

8. lone sub-ten year-olds

9. a trailer of proportions exceeding ten times the size of the moto. Trailer is often loaded with a stack of goods that can exceed 15 feet in height.

10. a full size mirror

11. bicycles

12. bundles of 30 coconuts

13. reckless tourists with no regard for potential future continuation of life

14. baskets; hundreds and hundreds of baskets

15. tourist-ferrying tuk tuk attachment

you could possibly add (I saw these yesterday):

- a queen-sized mattress
- 5 30 kg sacks of rice
- pregnant women, grandmas, and monks (all with a need for speed?)

i saw 7 people one one moto. it was your typical 5 person family arrangement (kid, dad, kid, mom, kid), but this time the mom had a small child in each arm. unfortunately i have no photo to prove this.

- a man with 3 poodles (one in the basket, one in his lap and one sitting on the back)

~ a stack of chicken-wire cages tied ten high, with a lone puppy in one of the topmost ones
~ slaughtered hog, beheaded and sliced in half from neck to tail, the hooves dancing as the moto bumps over potholes
~ 10-foot ladder (I think that's 3 metres, non-Americans!)

Entire kitchen dining set;
table, and four chairs

thick steel wire-cables wrapped around the waist and trailing behind for 20 feet!

a HUGE glass plate! That was by far the scariest thing I've seen on a moto! There is NO WAY no smashed into it - really! Not even tape around the edges or anything, and the last minute when you got close you were like HOLY SCHNIKIES BATMAN! That's a huge glass plate! :-)
